DeepMind's GenCast AI Revolutionizes Weather Forecasting

Google DeepMind has introduced GenCast, an AI-powered weather model that surpasses traditional forecasts, excelling at predictions up to 15 days ahead and identifying extreme weather events. Using probabilistic ensemble predictions, GenCast analyzes decades of ECMWF data to deliver faster, more accurate projections in just eight minutes, compared to hours for traditional methods. GenCast outperforms prior models, achieving a 97.2% success rate across variables like temperature and wind speed.

iGenius and Nvidia Build AI Powerhouse in Italy

Italian startup iGenius is partnering with Nvidia to launch “Colosseum,” one of the world’s largest deployments of Nvidia’s GB200 NVL72 servers. Slated to go live by mid-2025 in southern Italy, the facility will house 80 servers powered by Nvidia’s advanced “Blackwell” chips. iGenius, an open-source AI pioneer catering to industries like banking and healthcare, raised €650 million this year to fund the project.
